Physicians: Obama plan will 'shut down hospitals'
'Radically pro-abortion agenda' would remove conscience protections

Doctors are forecasting the closure of hospitals and clinics across America
and a mass migration of physicians and their assistances to other careers
should the Obama administration succeed in its attempt to overrule their
rights of conscience. "Thousands of conscientious and compassionate
physicians, nurses, hospitals and clinics currently serve poor women
and those who live in medically underserved areas," said David Stevens,
CEO of the Christian Medical Association. More Here...

AZ Legislative updates

  • UPDATE Abortion Consent Act PASSED!

On Ash Wednesday, the House Health and Human Services Committee passed the Abortion Consent Act (HB 2564) following exceptionally strong testimony in support of the bill. By way of reminder, HB 2564 includes common sense pro-life measures that include informed consent, more meaningful parental consent, rights of conscience for healthcare providers, and a prohibition on non-doctors performing surgical abortions.

The Arizona Catholic Conference (ACC) greatly appreciates all of the legislators voting for the measure as well as the pharmacists, doctors, and abortion victims who traveled from various parts of the state to make their voices heard on this extremely significant piece of legislation. There is still a long way for this bill to go before it becomes law, but we are off to a pretty good start.

Following the success of the Abortion Consent Act, the very next day the House tentatively approved HB 2286 which would streamline the charitable organization tax credit. This tax credit of $200 for individuals and $400 for married couples can be an even better resource for charitable organizations and crisis pregnancy centers serving the poor in these difficult economic times.

As we look to the near future, it is expected that a final floor vote on HB 2286 may happen this week. Additionally, other bills relating to the corporate scholarship (tuition) tax credit and partial birth abortion are expected to move to the House floor soon as well.

Co-Chairs
.......Cheryl Solorzano, RN and new Grandma.  Cheryl has been a devoted and energetic member since she met us at our Nov. 2007 40 Days For Life Campaign.  Cheryl will be a breath of fresh air and an inspiration for all of us.

........Pastor Gene Chewning, a Board member with Tucson RTL before our Chapter was even formed.  Pastor Gene has been a political candidate in our area, and he brings years of experience and dedication to the RTL positions he has held in the past and will now resume as our Chapter Co-Chair.

........STILL SEEKING A SECRETARY  This is not a difficult job, but an important one to help us get the word out to all our members, when there is a meeting report or important issue you need to know  HOW ABOUT YOU??????

........ Treasurer Extraordinaire Terry Gillespie, once again continues this position!

.........Education Director: I will take on a newly-created Board position, .  I'll continue with the  events we created as ongoing annual or weekly activities, but I'll focus more on the educational opportunities that have increased considerably over these past few years.

Our Central/SW Chapter is represented each time I speak to a class of Teens, speak to a group of Seniors on Euthanasia and end-of-life issues, and/or present Catholic teachings to adults entering the Catholic Faith.  Our Chapter is called on to speak to all types of groups, using scientific research as well as moral and spiritual when appropriate.  These classes are provided as invitation only, and they have become more frequent with each month that passes.  Fortunately, a UA Student leader has just offered to work with me, so please thank Christopher White!

Thank you to the National and to our State AZ Right to Life for providing so much information and support in this challenging opportunity to witness for those at risk in this Culture of Death.  I am very grateful to all of you for this rewarding new venture you have given me.

Each of us is given a talent, and we have the option of developing that talent and using it to do God's Will.  Your prayers and love have enabled me to use those gifts I have received by working as a speaker in His Vineyard.  I humbly thank God and each of you for the opportunities that have come to me through your support in this endeavor.

Please give the new Team the wonderful support and encouragement you have always shown.  I know you will get the best they have to offer, and I pray that each of you will give them the prayers and help they will need in this difficult time for good people to speak out on Life Issues in our society.
